Friday 5

By October 8, 2021Friday Five

Hello everyone,

Thanks for the couple weeks off 🙂 I appreciate you understanding. I celebrated my 35th birthday and am gearing up to have my mom and sister visit for about a week.

Thank you for reading this today. I’m sending my best wishes!

Now! Shall we jump back in? Here is your Friday 5.

New Resource
My buddy, Ryan, turned me on to this program called Notion. It’s a remarkably powerful and flexible workspace where you can take notes, run projects, set up data bases, and even build shareable web pages. I’m using it for book notes, organizing everything I’ve ever read (or trying to) and even writing this very Friday 5. If you already use it, let me know how! Oh, and it’s free.

What I’m Reading

Awareness: The Perils and Opportunities of Reality by Anthony de Mello

Something Awesome to Listen To

Tommy Emmanuel playing his version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Rebuttal for the Olivia Rodrigo / Paramore song
I got some great feedback from my last Friday 5, in which I talked about the similarities between good 4 u and Misery Business. Well, it touched a nerve with my friend Alvie (also the singer in my band, Alvie and the Breakfast Pigs…), and he quickly sent over this alternative opinion. The thesis? All musicians take/borrow/steal from other musicians. It’s a solid point.

What I’m Also Reading
Music and Trance: A Theory of the Relations between Music and Possession by Gilbert Rouget. Side note: It’s ok to read more than one book at a time. It’s ok to not a finish a book.

Have a great weekend,
Matt
