Saturday 6

By October 23, 2021Friday Five

Hi everyone,

Busy week! And rainy. But we welcome the rain in California – it has been a dry and fiery few months. Wherever you happen to be, dear reader, I hope you have a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable weekend.

Here is your Saturday Six! Just a reminder – though I send this from Music Therapy Source, I rarely share exclusively music-related content. I try and share anything that is exciting, inspiring, useful, thought-provoking, or just fun ๐Ÿ™‚

Whales!

Last weekend featured most majestic experience. While on a nature-viewing expedition out to the Farallon Islands with my family and my girlfriend, we met a friendly humpback whale who hung out with us for over an hour. He rolled around and under the boat, sprayed us with smelly exhales, and peaked above the water to get closer looks at the humans.

What I’m Listening To

I have tickets to see Beethoven 9 in a few weeks, performed by the San Francisco Symphony. I’m stoked! So I’m listening to that as I write this.

What I’m Listening To, pt 2

My singer, Alvie, recommended Jack White’s recent release, Taking Me Back. The single comes with a B side of the same song, but with a much different arrangement. Thanks Alvie!

A Performance I Wish I Saw

Jason Isbell was playing The Ryman last night and he joined his opener, Allison Russell, in this performance of Stop Dragging My Heart Around. Awesome.

Wine I’m Enjoying

Living an hour from Napa, CA has some benefits. Naturally, those benefits mostly have to do with the enjoyment of food and wine. On Monday, I visited one of my favorite wineries: Tulocay Winery As is my routine, I left with several bottles. Tulocay is one of the oldest wineries in the region and is still family owned and operated. It is a vastly different experience from the huge estates and Disney-esque buildings. The only thing missing is the pretentiousness you find in a lot of those spots. And the wine is fantastic. I especially love their pinot noirs. If you’re in the area, or want to order some Napa wines, I highly recommend them. They don’t pay me for this ๐Ÿ™‚

What I’m Reading

Personal finance can be kind of intimidating. It seems like there is so much to know and so many ways to get distracted. In my own journey, I’ve found a couple books that have demystified things like investing. Two books that have been most helpful to me for creating systems and developing a real approach to building wealth are: I Will Teach You to Be Rich by Ramit Sethi (don’t let the cheesy title repel you) and Unshakeable by Tony Robbins. Both books are under $15 and can have a real impact on your future. And, both books are for real people without a background in finance.

Have a great weekend!
Matt
