Friday 5

By September 17, 2021Friday Five

Greetings, all.

I present to you the last Friday 5 of the summer! Fall begins Wednesday of next week, and thus starts the wind-down of 2021. What a time it’s been, huh?

A little heads up – I will be taking the next two weeks off from the Friday 5. I could use a little breather, plus I’m switching up some of my systems and that is requiring a lot of time and focus. My birthday is in there somewhere, too, so it’s a good time to take a sec and reset.

So until then, please take good care of yourselves and each other πŸ™‚

Here is theeee Friday 5.

What I’m Listening To
This epic live performance by Prince and 3RDEYEGIRL from 2014. It’s bluesy, riffy, and I want his guitar. What a performer, and what an awesome group of musicians.

Article I’m Reading
When I first heard Olivia Rodrigo’s song Good 4 U, I was like: “Oh, I guess Paramore came out with a new song.” Turns out I wasn’t the only one who thought the song sounded like “Misery Business”. So what did Olivia do? She gave songwriting credits to Hayley Williams and Josh Farro (from Paramore). And they got their first number one song ever. Can you imagine writing a song that was pretty popular, and then fifteen years later, getting royalties for a very similar sounding blockbuster pop song? What a jackpot. Not to mention, all the additional royalties from people listening to Misery Business again. I actually love this solution. It’s much better than a long, drawn-out court case. I think we can say: Paramore, Good 4 U πŸ˜‰

Quote
Since we started with a Prince video, here’s a quote from The Purple One: “To create something from nothing is one of the greatest feelings, and I would – I don’t know, I wish it upon everybody. It’s heaven.” – Prince

Have a great weekend,
