Happy Friday, y’all.
I hope you are gearing up for the type of weekend that you want and need. I’m sipping some coffee and preparing for a 2-day training on pediatric hypnosis.
Please enjoy today’s edition of the Friday 5.
What I’m Listening To
As I write this, I’m listening to a new record called Pohorylle by Margo Cilker. I don’t know Margo, but she’s a friend of a band I’ve been sitting in with (called Spud Buddy). It’s definitely worth a listen if you’re into folk/country/americana. Pitchfork wrote a nice review.
What I’m Reading
Punks, Squiqqles, and the Future of Generative Media (article) by Derek Edws and Stephen McKeon.
Journal Article I Read Recently
I participated in a lovely journal club last week that looked at this article in the American Journal of Critical Care: Effect of Live Versus Recorded Music on Children Receiving Mechanical Ventilation and Sedation.
Music and Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy
The last few years have seen an exponential growth of funded studies looking into the therapeutic benefits of psychedelic-assisted therapies. I’m not going to go deeply into that here (you can find plenty of good info here), but I’ll share that I’m paying attention to the ubiquitous use of music in the protocols that are being tested and developed. I might be writing more about that soon, and I would love to know what thoughts you have. In the meantime, here’s one of many articles I’ve read on the topic.
Podcast I Recently Enjoyed
The Beginning of Infinity, a podcast episode with Naval Ravikant and Brett Hall.
Have a great weekend!
Matt
