Friday 5

By July 16, 2021Friday Five

Hi, all!

I’m excited to bring you this week’s Friday 5, and excited to head into a relaxing weekend. No big plans here, just some chores and errands. How about you? What concerts or shows are you going to this weekend?

Here’s your Friday 5!

Presentations, Revisited
A couple weeks ago, I wrote about a talk I gave and provided some useful tips. Many of you responded, so I
turned it into a blog post and added a few extra recommendations. The talk was at a beautiful event space in Napa, CA, and yes, they gave me a bottle of wine. It was a delicious Pinot Noir that made me very happy.

Coffee I’m Drinking
Ok, as a sleep advocate, I find it important to preface this. I drink one cup of coffee per day, and I wait until I’ve been awake for 60-90 minutes before I have my cup. Rationale for that can be found in many of the books I’ve recommended (When and Why We Sleep), as well as in the podcast linked below. Right now, I’m drinking Philz Ambrosia Coffee of God. It’s lovely. My brewing method is pour-over.

Podcast
Tim Ferriss’ interview with Andrew Huberman: A Neurobiologist on Optimizing Sleep, Enhancing Performance, Reducing Anxiety, Increasing Testosterone, and Using the Body to Control the Mind.

Record From the 2000’s I’m Revisiting
I listened to this a bunch when I was in undergrad. I loved the guitar tones, the vocals, the bold drumming…so much about it. I’m talking about Mutemath’s 2006 self-titled record

I Need Help
I’m pretty stoked about our new “dress code” for music therapists at work. Scrub pants and band tees. I plan to use my wardrobe to connect and to educate, expecting my shirts to be a conversation starter. I work in pediatrics, so…what band tees would you wear? Here are the bands/artists I already know I’ll be repping: Johnny Cash, Fleetwood Mac, a bunch of SF bands, The Beatles, maybe Led Zeppelin…who else will I need to add to my collection?

Have a GREAT weekend!
Matt
