Friday 5

By June 1, 2018Friday Five
Happy June!
Here are 5 fun resources to set you up for the weekend.
Quote to Ponder
“…the aim of psychological healing [is] bringing the patient from a state of not being able to play into a state of being able to play…It is in playing and only in playing that the individual child or adult is able to be creative and to use the whole personality, and it is only in being creative that the individual discovers the self.” -Donald Winnicott, as quoted in Free Play by Stephen Nachmanovitch
Visioning
How are you doing on those New Year’s Resolutions? How about your goals in general? How specific have you gotten with your goals? Dude… you need a vision board. Check out Part 1 and Part 2 of these blog posts about vision boarding by Krista, a registered drama therapist.
Music and Alzheimer’s Prevention
The American Music Therapy Association posted in April about this article in Parade Magazine, which touts the benefits of music-making in reducing the risk of Alzheimer’s. Very cool.
Don’t Stop Believin’
I work at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital in San Francisco, and this is one of our recent projects. With four teens undergoing bone marrow transplant, we were able to provide an expressive outlet and social experience even though they couldn’t leave their rooms. Would love to know if you’ve done something similar!

What I’m Listening To
Spring and early Summer put me in the mood for 1950’s era rock n roll, especially when I’m driving up and down the coast in California. Which is exactly what I will be doing this weekend. I’ll be listening to this Spotify playlist.
Have a great weekend!
Matt
PS Music Therapy Source runs on love. Be a rockstar and consider donating $5/month to keep the Friday 5 alive!
