Friday 5

By December 19, 2015Friday Five

Season’s greetings! Here is the weekly installment of the Friday 5 – five things I’m excited about this week that I just have to share. If you know someone who might enjoy something listed here, please share this post with them! You can also get these delivered straight to your email inbox by clicking here. Take care and enjoy this holiday season!

MUSIC

I’m not going to do it! No holiday song recs here! I won’t give in! Instead, I’m going to share with you a song that I wish had been more popular when it was released earlier this year. The chorus aptly describes my feelings for YOU, dear reader. You see, this holiday season is a great time for me to share this sentiment: I Really Like You. Cheers!

BOOK

The Consolations of Philosophy by Alain de Botton. Philosophy can be dense. However, de Botton has a gift of distilling the ideas of some of history’s most important thinkers and applying their lessons to situations and feelings that almost all of us encounter in our human experience. I really love this book.

GEAR

PolyTune Clip by TC Electronic. Full disclosure: I do not yet own one of these. But I have a tuning pedal they make that I use with my electric guitar rig, and I HAVE used the Clip on a couple different occasions. I want one badly. Why is it so cool? It allows you to tune all of your strings at once (strum them all and see which are sharp and flat) and it’s super accurate. And sooo pretttty….

MUSIC QUOTE

“Music has always been a matter of Energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it Inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel. I have always needed Fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio.” -Hunter S. Thompson

TEASER

Last week, my co-hosts and I interviewed AMTA President-Elect Jennifer Geiger on the Music Therapy Round Table podcast. We dug deep into the Music and Memory program, which was hotly discussed because of its appearance in film “Alive Inside”,  and chatted about what it means for music therapists. Stay tuned – I will definitely let you know when it’s out!
