Hi all,

It’s Friday 5 time, and I hope you enjoy this edition. Have a lovely and safe weekend, and be sure to do something that fills you up. Y’all are the bees knees, thanks for reading each week! Oh, and thanks to those of you who have replied recently! I love hearing from you.

What I’m Reading
Nurse Papa: 16 Meditations on Parenthood from a Pediatric Oncology Nurse by David Metzger. I shared David’s podcast a few weeks ago, and now his book is out! David has a unique way of seeing things, and he’s crafted inspiring gems in his book and podcast.

YouTube Video I’m Watching
What Makes This Song Great – Comfortably Numb. Last weekend, Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb” came on the car stereo (yes, I still listen to FM…) and I turned to my girlfriend every 10-15 seconds to point out something I love in this song. Then I watched Rick Beato’s video and I felt SO SEEN. The song is truly a masterpiece, and it’s a delight to watch Rick dig in and isolate different parts, highlighting the brilliance.

Music and Science
The music of silence: Imagining a song triggers similar brain activity to moments of mid-music silence. “…music is more than a sensory experience for the brain as it engages the brain in a continuous attempt of predicting upcoming musical events.”

What I’m Listening To
“Distance” by Emily King. This isn’t a new song, but I heard a remix with Emily King on it (“Georgia”, with Brittany Howard and J Most) and it made me want to hear this song again. Talk about some excellent uses of silence…
