Greetings, all!
It’s time for an edition of the Saturday 6! Here are a few things I’m digging this week. Hope you do, too!
The Lost Dedications
My fellow UCSF music therapist, Jenny, sent me this story. A box of unopened song requests and dedications from 1962 is found in a radio DJ’s archives. The host has the opportunity to read the dedications, honor the requests, and play the songs. For an hour full of delight, check out The Lost Dedications.
A Favorite Quarantine Read
American Serengeti by Dan Flores was one of my favorite reads during quarantine. It was fantastic imagining the creatures that used to wander the plains. And of course, upsetting to learn how recklessly they were treated by humans. Nonetheless, highly recommended.
YouTube Series
I’ve been enjoying the variety from Rick Beato, looking at things like what makes some songs great, what makes guitar solos rock, and even what makes some songs awful.
Weird 80’s Music Video
Everyone remembers the A-Ha classic, Take on Me. But have you ever seen the music video?
NPR Tiny Desk
From 2015 – this performance by The Wild Reeds features some lovely songs and impressive harmonies. Just saying.
A Quote to Consider
“We look at the present through a rear-view mirror. We march backwards into the future.” Marshall McLuhan
Have a great weekend,
