Greetings, nerds.
And of course I mean that in the cool way. You are in good company 🙂
I’m a little behind, currently writing this on Thursday night while sipping a glass of wine that is definitely NOT FROM A BOX…
Don’t judge me.
Here is this week’s Friday 5 – a curated list of things that I think are neat, swell, and thought-provoking.
What I’m Reading
Thinking in Bets: Making Smarter Decisions When You Don’t Have All the Facts by Annie Duke
Quarantine Creations
Here’s another collaboration that came out of quarantine, once again featuring UK-based music therapist and Song Chef, Sarah Morgan. I refer to this period of the pandemic as “Hulk Loganstache period”. You’ll see why when you listen to our cover of Purple Rain. Sarah – was this really a year ago?!
We Love the ’80’s!
When it comes to finding weird ’80’s music videos, there is truly an embarrassment of riches. Today, we feature the music video/accidental anti-cocaine PSA for “Start Me Up”, by none other than the Rolling Stones. There are so many questions, like is Charlie Watts their drummer and dad? Does Mick’s shirt snap together at the bottom? Why do I love that they didn’t even bother to plug in the guitars? I’m pretty sure the amount of time spent in production and the length of the video are exactly the same on this one. Respect.
What I’m Listening To
Lei Ho’oheno (traditional Hawaiian)
I haven’t been out of California in 14 months, so I’ve been voyaging with my ears. I learned this one from a patient’s father a couple years ago.
Ancient Music
We all have those thoughts that keep us up at night. One of mine, consistently, is: “I have to know what jams were they listening to when building those big pyramids in Egypt.” This is not a joke. I doubt we can know for sure, but I love websites like World Music Network that at least offer hints.
Boom! You just got Friday 5’d. Hope you liked it 🙂
Keep up the replies – they keep me going! Have a great weekend, lovely people.
-Matt
