Hello,
Here we go, launching into another weekend. I don’t know about you, but this week flew by for me. I feel like I did a lot of things, and yet still have much to do. Isn’t that the way it goes? At least I got the Friday 5 done 🙂 Enjoy, and let me know if you have discovered any resources I should share.
Without further ado, here’s that Friday 5.
Book I’m Reading
Breath by James Nestor. Just finished it and it’s very interesting. Two different friends (shout out to An-Nhien and Tim) recommended it on subsequent days, so I bought it immediately. By the way, I very rarely hesitate when thinking about buying a book. Almost every one of them is a good investment. Just a personal policy.
Article I’m Reading
Dave Marsh’s 1989 essay on Marvin Gaye’s “I Heard it Through the Grapevine”. First, this is a remarkable analysis of the sonic elements. It’s not theoretical, more symbolic. Second, there is a trove of similar essays on this website.

What I’m Listening To
More West African music. My buddy and fellow music therapist, Evan, responded to the F5 last week and reminded me of another favorite, the Saharan rock band Tinariwen (Spotify link). I saw them a few years ago in Berkeley, California. Highly recommended.
And a Quote

Take care,

PS I have two spots open for private guitar coaching or supervision. Just reply if interested.
