Friday 5

By November 9, 2018Friday Five
Greetings! Happy Friday. Here is your Friday 5 from Music Therapy Source. Remember that you can view past editions (and other cool things) at Music Therapy Source.
What I’m Reading
Reading (and re-reading) this book helps me to question systems and how they ultimately serve the patient/client. There isn’t anything specifically music- or music therapy-related, but the principles can be applied.
Something to Watch
How to truly listen – Evelyn Glennie. From the early days of TED talks on YouTube.
Article to Check Out
How tuning into music can stimulate the brain. Playing an instrument can protect from memory loss and personalized playlists can reduce anxiety in those with dementia.
Another Article
Musicians and non-musicians brains are certainly different. But differences extend even further. Read: Miles Davis is not Mozart: The brains of jazz and classical pianists work differently. Side note: I take a small issue with the title, as I seem to remember learning that Mozart was quite the improviser, as demonstrated by this rare footage 😉

“…it is only in being creative that the individual discovers the self.” -Donald Winnicott
Have a great weekend!
