Friday 5!

By November 3, 2017Friday Five
You all are the best. I love hearing from you, so thank you for your feedback, kind words, and questions. Here is your Friday 5.
How I’m Reading
I know I usually do a “what I’m reading”, but you might be wondering how I get through so many books. Audible is the answer. It’s a great way to turn your commute into a college course or a pleasurable escape.
Tech
When you need to play songs at work, or at home for that matter, I hope you’re using tech to make this as easy as possible. Unless you’re a purist who only uses vinyl, it’s time to embrace the ease of bluetooth. I love not having to deal with any CD’s, cables, or power outlets when I use my bluetooth speaker at the hospital. It syncs to my iPad and I’m ready to go in minutes. I use a Jawbone Jambox, but there are tons of good options out there.
Guitar
It’s that time of year again. Pretty soon we’ll be hearing holiday music and, in many parts of the world, bundling up against the elements. Remember that as the weather gets colder, the air will get dryer. That takes a toll on our instruments! This is my annual plea to take care of your instruments by getting a humidifier or making one for your guitars. I made this video in 2009 (before Justin Bieber had a bank account, let alone a hit song…) but the content is still good.
More Tech
One piece of tech I could not live without is the Blue Yeti USB Microphone. It allows me to record in patients’ rooms with great ease and it has several different recording patterns. Does it sound like a $900 studio mic? No. But for the money and ease, the value is solid. I’ve probably recommended this before, but I use it so much I feel compelled to do it again.
Sleepy?
Two words: Caffeine Nap. It’s on the internet, so it must me effective 😉

PS
I’ve been overwhelmed with joy and appreciation by those of you who have pledged support. Thank you! This is a labor of love, but there are some costs. When one more person subscribes, the costs of maintaining the email list will be completely covered! Next goal is the hosting expenses 🙂
If you love these ad-free resources and have the means to help keep it going, please consider subscribing to support this powerful community. There are 3 different levels of support, which start at about the price of a pack of guitar strings ($5/month). You can now make a one-time donation to help with costs, too! And if you have already subscribed, THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. I am sending good vibes and a virtual hug your way!
