Friday 5! Valentine’s day parodies, live music, and a chuckle

By February 2, 2017Friday Five

Happy February!

Groundhog’s day came and went – we heard the groundhog saw his shadow, but we will have to see what the weather says about that this weekend. πŸ™‚ In the meantime, enjoy the Friday 5:

Song
I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor
This song idea was inspired by a colleague of ours who takes a fun twist on the February 14th holiday. She celebrates by doing a session with parodies of love songs (check out the hilarious second verse of Bicycle built for Two here) and other music about self-empowerment.

Instrument
Ocean Drum
Wonderful for relaxation or increased focus/client interest. We suggest smaller, quieter ocean drums for clients in the NICU and clients with sensory needs.

App
Speechnotes
If you like to plan for sessions by talking out loud, this app is great. Note that while it is free, avoid using it for session notes it is most likely not HIPAA friendly since it uses an internet connection.

Self Care Tip
When was the last time you went to see live music? Consider connecting with yourself musically by checking out the local music scene, a jam session, or even a concert. Colleges and universities often offer music cheap music events and open mics are often free as well.

Joke
Did you hear the joke about the fermata? Wait, it’s too long…

Have a great weekend, music friends! And remember – sharing is caring, whether it’s sharing what resources you use in the comments or sending the link for this article along to someone who might use it.

Toodles!
